I have been participating in Cancer Awareness Walks and Events since my diagnosis back in 1996. I started off with the Revlon Run/ Walk for Women's Cancer in Los Angeles and grew a big team with my school. I fell in love with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and became the co-chair for the Survivors for the first ever Relay in Pacific Palisades. I continued to Relay in Pacific Palisades and then in Albany, Oregon where I moved in 2006. I also became active in Oregon in the annual Walk for the Cure in Albany and the Race for the Cure in Portland and in Eugene. I moved back to California in 2015 and found a new event called Reality Rally to participate in and also the Stater Brothers Believe Walk in Redlands and the Komen More Than Pink Walk in Murrieta.
However, the walk that is near and dear to my heart is the Breast Cancer 3-Day...In 1998 I heard about the Breast Cancer 3- Day walk, a 60 mile walk from Santa Barbara to Malibu. I wanted to register for that walk, but then was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the second time in 2 years and had to have a mastectomy and start chemo instead. I did attend the Closing Ceremony for the very first walk as my friend was a speaker. I was so moved that I made my friend promise to walk with me the following year. And the love for the 3-Day 60 mile walk began! I was in the Survivor Circle and cut the ribbon to begin the walk in 1999. I continued to walk every year after that and became a media spokesperson- getting to talk on the news, speaking at fundraising events, speaking to the All Volunteer Crew at Day Zero, going on the Leeza Gibbons Show and my all time favorite- The Donny and Marie Show!
I have now participated in 16 of the Breast Cancer 3-Day walks all over the country- crewing 1 and walking 15. My Team Pink Wings, my family, and my company Pink Wings, has raisied over 1/2 million dollars in the fight against cancer. I have watched the walks grow from 1 to 14 walks around the country, then slip back to 7 and now 4. Sadly- the 3-Day walks had to be cancelled due to the Pandemic. This was absolutely the right decision to make. I had already designed the pins for the 4 2020 cities and had them in stock by late 2019. About a month into the pandemic, 3-Day walkers began contacting me and asking me to make a pin for the walk that wasn't...some sort of pin to capture the pandemic. This TP Pandemic 2020 pin shows the pink ribbon, signifying the fight against breast cancer and also shows a mask- something that all of us have been required to wear to protect ourselves and others from Covid 19. I added the roll of toilet paper and the bottle of hand sanitizer as that is a visual for some reason of the Pandemic and this wild ride called 2020.
These pins are a 1 1/4" great quality Cloisonne pin with a rubber back attachment. Order yours today as a keepsake of this crazy year and I will see you in 2021 for much needed hugs from my Pink Bubble Family!
